Over 20 Years of Teaching Experience

About Brantley

I studied philosophy and Mandarin at Trinity University in my hometown, San Antonio, Texas. After a year abroad studying at National Taiwan Normal University’s Mandarin Training Center, I graduated from Trinity in 1997. In 1998 I began working as an English tutor in the San Francisco Bay Area, helping my students with things like grammar, essay writing, SAT preparation, literary analysis, and college applications. From 2009 through 2017 I also worked in the China travel industry, along with my wife, a native of Shanghai. In 2018, we relocated to the San Antonio area, where I have continued teaching English to a mix of local and remote students while adding freelance editing and proofreading, translation, and Mandarin tutoring to my repertoire.

TESTIMONIALS

What My Students and Clients Say

I’ve known Brantley for nearly as long as I’ve been alive. He’s a great teacher as well as a really cool dude, and he knows how to break up the monotony of what would otherwise be a pretty tedious assignment, SAT prep, or review lesson. He does whatever he can to help his students and has their best interests at heart. I’ve learned many things from him, from grammar rules to important life lessons.

Student of high school English, SAT prep, and college application essay writing

I definitely wasn’t an easy student to teach, but Brantley went above and beyond to make learning easy, accessible, and fun. With his help and tenacity, he taught me how to analyze literature through music and practice for my SATs through games like Jeopardy. Beyond all of that, he would make himself available whenever I needed him. Any student would be lucky to have him as a tutor and a friend.
